Law, Government, & Public Administration

As a pre-law student at Augustana College,  you will build the foundational knowledge necessary in preparation for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and law school. Studying at a liberal arts college will develop your ability to think critically, read and comprehend complex materials, communicate effectively, and research and defend a position or argument.

Pre-law at Augustana is not a major; it is a program affiliated with the political science department. It provides extensive coursework in international and comparative politics, and serves as a resource for several of our international study programs, especially Asian studies, and Latin American studies.

You are free to choose the academic major and electives that align with your career goals. Several students who go on to study law after Augustana majored in philosophy, psychology, English, political science, or sociology, among others.

Beyond the classroom, Augustana students interested in law school often participate in the Pre-Law Club, the Politics Club, Augie Democrats or Augie Republicans, and more.

Students can also use their Augie Choice to help support law-related internships and experiences working with legal service agencies. Augustana also works closely with the Washington Internship Institute, and PLEN to deliver high-quality, meaningful experiences for students.
