Internship Search

An internship is the practical application of the skills, knowledge and talents that students gain at Augustana, bridging the gap between the classroom and the “real world.” Internships combine classroom theory with a structured, supervised work experience, providing the opportunity to link the academic experience with future career aspirations or community service objectives.

  • Students can find internship opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Internships may be part-time or full-time, paid or unpaid, remote or in-person, for academic credit or non-credit
  • Depending on the area of study, students may receive credit towards major/minor requirements, senior inquiry, or elective credit
  • Students can apply to use Augie Choice funds to support their internship, and grant funding is sometimes available for qualified students

To be considered an internship, a position must:

  • Provide a learning experience that parallels the student’s course of study.
  • Have a defined beginning and end, usually the length of one semester or term.
  • Adhere to clearly defined learning outcomes related to the professional goals of the student’s field(s) of study or career interests.
  • Be supervised by a professional employed by the hiring company or organization. The supervisor should offer routine feedback and at least one formal evaluation of the student’s performance.
  • Provide resources, equipment and facilities that support a professional learning environment for the student.
  • Take place in a setting other than a private home.

Students are eligible to apply for an internship following successful completion of one term at Augustana College. However, most students will not be approved for an internship until they have completed at least one year of college coursework at Augustana.
