Alexandra Amacher’s Augie Choice Story

Alexandra Amacher is currently interning with WHBF/KLJB and decided to use her Augie Choice to do so. Here are some of her highlights of her internship so far:

“I enjoy being in an environment where the employees don’t treat me any different because I am only an intern. I have also felt very comfortable and welcomed even though I was only one of two women on the evening production team at the time that I started”.

“I have been able to learn how to run the teleprompter, audio/music, graphics, edit promos, and control the cameras in the studio”.

“This internship relates to my second major in MJMC because I am working at a news station not just in production, but also working with the anchors and reporters in the studio. Through this internship, I not only learned the skills needed to work in production, but also the different parts of a live show including how to read a rundown and script, the different types of stories/videos played during shows (SOT, VO ,Package, etc.), and how important it is to have the show timed to the second. Some of the things I have learned at this internship so far apply to what I have been learning in the MJMC sequence (specifically MJMC-250)”

“While I have been at my internship, I have been using my Augie Choice to not only get necessities like food and gas, but also to get some professional clothing that I may need for future interviews. I also used some of the money as a paycheck since I have not had time this semester to work at my part-time off-campus job as a receptionist to make money for other expenses.”

“My experience at WHBF/KLJB has definitely given me the opportunity to see if production is something I would enjoy doing as a job in the future. So far, I really enjoy production and I could see myself working at a job like my internship in the future after graduation. I am considering becoming a director. I have just received the opportunity to start shadowing the directors so that I can learn more about what they do and how they prepare for each show.”
