SUMMER HIGHLIGHT

Hi! My name is Jenna Sorenson and I am a Summer Intern with Citizens for Conservation in Lake Zurich, IL.

What we did was environmental conservation and restoration work. We planted native plants to help restore preserves, removed invasive species, collected seeds, cleaned them, sowed them, and conducted data-collecting projects like stream assessments, identifying mussels, bird-box monitoring, and bumble bee monitoring.

The highlight of my internship was taking a trip to the Nachusa Grasslands where we were able to learn how they reintroduced bison into their preserve!

Some advice I would give to students in my specific field is to try and bring humor into your everyday work! It can be very physically exhausting in this job field so bringing light into your day-to-day is important. I would advise anyone doing any internship to value the people you work with because they can be people you stay connected with years down the line. Keep in touch!
