Career Mentors work with Augustana students to help them create and revise resumes and cover letters. They also work with students to prepare them for future interviews and with general professional development.

Career Mentors play a fundamental role in the CORE mission and vision by meeting with students one-on-one to help them create and revise resumes and cover letters and to prepare them for future interviews. They also have the responsibility of presenting to prospective students what CORE is and how the office can create opportunities for students. This position will also allow mentors to create purpose and clarity with their own career aspirations and personal goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Hold office hours and one-on-one appointments to provide assistance in resume creation, cover letter assistance, and other career-related activities.
  • Give presentations to prospective students and families to familiarize them with CORE
  • Assist as directed at numerous CORE-sponsored events, programming, and other activities as needed.
  • Mandatory participation in ongoing training and professional development
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
  • Ability to give strong presentations and represent the office to potential students
  • Display initiative and motivation with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to effectively and professionally represent CORE to fellow students, campus departments, and prospective students
  • Ability to work with and respect students of diverse backgrounds (major, ethnicity, gender, race, sexuality, religion, etc.)
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media sites, Zoom, etc.)
  • Must be available to work both fall and spring semesters
  • Must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or above)
  • Any major can apply!

DAYS/HOURS: Weekly hourly limits apply, up to 10 per week for domestic students and up to 18 hours per week for international students (per federal regulations). There is some flexibility in creating your own schedule, though we have a specific need for student availability between 10am-3pm Monday – Friday. This schedule is determined each semester.
