Community-based, social justice–centered internship

Upper Mississippi Center for Sustainable Communities & Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness

This community partnership has something for everyone.

  1. GIS – find and compile relevant geospatial databases, create geodatabases, use Arc-GIS technology and platforms to visualize data (maps), conduct spatial 
  2. Web Design – update all relevant websites to increase college and community awareness and understanding of the project
  3. Social Media, Marketing, and Public Outreach – develop messages and produce all relevant materials to increase community awareness and understanding of the project
  4. Preparing Business & Financial Plans-work with engineering team to develop financial plans / costs for replacing lead service lines with different materials
  5. Data Analytics  – clean, compile, and analyze data from a diverse array of sources, often in the face of substantial uncertainty and incompleteness
  6. Organizing Community Nonprofit Groups – serve as a liaison with key community nonprofits (centers, churches, etc.), local government, and informal groups; engage with and build lines of communication with leaders of such organizations and other community leaders
  7. Project managers – manage the operational details of several projects simultaneously and ensure participating team members meet milestones and deadlines
  8. Engineering – conduct research on related infrastructure and systems
