Faculty & Staff Resources: Resources to Share

Refer a Student

A faculty or staff member is often one of the first people a student turns to when seeking career advice. Augustana College students develop some of their most marketable skills while in the classroom and often feel connected to faculty. As you work to assist students who are asking career questions, feel free to refer students to Career Development if a career-related question arises.

There are several options for referring a student to Career Development:

  • Encourage them to schedule an appointment via Handshake
  • Call our office at 309-794-7339 to schedule an appointment
  • Escort them over to our office in Olin 110

Request a Career Speaker

Career Coaches and Career Mentors are available to deliver presentations to groups and classes on a variety of career-related topics. From a five minute “pop-in” to a 90-minute workshop, we can deliver specialized content to fit your needs.

Common topics include:

  • Introduction to Handshake
  • Introduction to the Viking Score
  • Resumes & Cover Letters
  • Professionalism
  • Best Practices using LinkedIn
  • Career Exploration
  • CORE Orientation
  • Networking and Informational Interviews
  • Making the most of a Career Fair
  • Interview Preparation
  • Graduate/Professional School Search

Refer an Employer

As a faculty or staff member you probably have connections with employers in your field.  As you interact with employers, consider referring those organizations who might be hiring college students for internships and full-time positions.  Simply share the organization and name, title, and email of your contact with Employer Relations by emailing recruiting@augustana.edu.  A member of the Employer Relations Team will follow up if you aren’t already in our system.

Request an Employer Speaker

Employers are always interested in sharing industry or career-related topics with students. Faculty who wish to invite employers to deliver presentations or case study competitions are encouraged to first connect with Career Development.  A member of the Employer Relations Team will learn more about your needs and recommend employers who would be a good fit.  We recommend to employers that any presentation should include a balance of career education/case study, career opportunities available at employer organization, and questions and answers. Solicitation of products is not allowed.  You are never obligated to allow any employer, especially one that is unsolicited, access to your students.
