Asking for and Getting What You Want

Don’t limit your inner jury to being your critic. In this audio-only course from How to Be Awesome at Your Job, trial attorney Heather Hansen shares her top tools from the courtroom to help you get what you want. Heather encourages you to build your inner credibility by keeping an evidence journal with a list of your achievements, skills, and talents. She discusses making smarter and better choices and emphasizes the importance of word choices. Heather describes the importance of understanding the other person’s perspective before challenging their beliefs. She shows you how to ask questions in ways that help people reach the answer on their own. Heather shows you the value of repetition, then advocates being present and mindful when you’re listening, as well as having non-negotiables and negotiables, both with yourself and others. Plus, she reveals why arguments rarely work and how to navigate them if you can’t avoid them.
