Ramadan Mubarak! Honoring & Supporting Our Muslim Community

Together with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,

We say to the Augustana Community…

Ramadan Mubarak! (meaning, “Blessed Ramadan”)

On Friday, February 28, at sundown, many Muslim members of our Augustana community will begin observing the holy month of Ramadan, a time of spiritual reflection, prayer, and fasting that commemorates the revelation of the Qur’an.

We recognize that this is a deeply meaningful time for many students, faculty, and staff, yet it can also be challenging for those who are far from home and loved ones. To our Muslim community: we are eager to support you, and we honor this sacred month with you.

How We Can Show Support & Care

For those unfamiliar with Ramadan, here are some ways we can show care and respect for our students and colleagues who are fasting:

  • Be Mindful of Fasting Hours: Many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, refraining from both food and water during the day. If scheduling meetings or events, consider flexibility and awareness around meal times.
  • Respect Energy Levels: Fasting can be physically demanding, especially in the first few days. Offering understanding and kindness… especially in class, at work, or during activities, goes a long way.
  • Offer Words of Encouragement: A simple “Ramadan Mubarak!” or “Wishing you a peaceful and blessed Ramadan” can be deeply meaningful.
  • Celebrate Together: Join our campus-wide Community Iftar celebration and the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan and learn more about this special time alongside our Muslim students and colleagues.

Join Us for Community Iftar

The Augustana Muslim community warmly invites everyone to a free campus-wide Iftar (the evening meal to break the fast) on Friday, March 7, at 5:30 PM in Lindberg Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather, learn, and experience the beauty of Ramadan together.

Eid Celebrations on Campus

As Ramadan concludes, we will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a joyful festival marking the end of fasting. All members of the campus community are welcome to attend the Eid celebrations on Friday, April 4, at 5:30 PM in Lindberg Center.

May this month be one of peace, understanding, and connection for all. May we continue to learn from one another, support our diverse traditions, and create a campus where everyone feels seen, valued, and included.
