J-Term On-Campus Employment

Updated January 2025

During the 2025 January Term (J-Term), students who are not enrolled in a J-Term course or experience may work on campus, provided they work a minimum of 10 hours per week in an on-campus position.

  • Students Enrolled in J-Term Experience: Academic Term weekly hourly limits are in place.  Domestic Students: 10 hours per week limit and International Students: 20 hours per week limit
  • Students NOT enrolled in J-Term Experience: Break weekly hourly limits are in place with up to 40 hours per week.

It is the supervisor’s responsibility to communicate and confirm with students whether they are enrolled in a J-Term experience prior to scheduling hours. Students are permitted to work more than the 10-hour minimum, provided their schedule complies with institutional and employment guidelines.

Additional Notes:

  • On-campus employment opportunities during J-Term are subject to departmental needs and hiring processes. Students are encouraged to secure their employment early to meet this requirement.
  • Housing Eligibility: Students utilizing campus housing during J-Term must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrollment in a J-Term course or approved experience as outlined under the Housing section, or
    • Employment in an on-campus position working at least 10 hours per week.
