Iowa Institute of Human Genetics

The purpose of this series is to provide you with exposure to hot topics in the field and to assist in preparing you for a successful career in genetic counseling. Hosted over 8-weeks in the summer, this series is split into two parts. Part I consists of several pre-recorded lectures that cover many specialties in genetic counseling as well as some information sessions. Part II consists of webinar meetings for more discussion-based topics such as direct-to-consumer genetic testing. Participants are expected to engage in discussions during each session. Part II webinars are offered live in real time only – recordings are not made available.

Participants that attend all sessions, complete a pre and post-test, as well as a program evaluation can earn a certificate of completion.

Sessions occur over 8-weeks during the summer, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 12-1pm US Central Time. The days and times of the sessions are chosen based on availability of the Genetic Counselors who are taking time out of their day to facilitate these discussions. It is not possible to accommodate requests to alter the schedule.

Who can participate? College undergraduates and recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing graduate school for genetic counseling
