There are few events during the academic year that touch on the true mission of Career Development & Vocation at Augustana like the Viking Score Banquet.
Held annually at the end of the year, the Viking Score Banquet is an evening celebrating seniors who have earned 100 Viking Score points or more. The Viking Score is Augustana College’s career-readiness program to support students through college and post-graduate life by tracking experiences and awarding points to earn incentives along the way.
Each invited student is able to bring a guest who has support their career success throughout their college career. This year, 76 students brought 50 guests who ranged from parents to supervisors to roommates with the biggest group of supporters being faculty and staff.
Over the years, the number of seniors with 100+ Viking Score points has increased from 30 students in 2019 to 126 students, approximately 20% of the graduating class.
The Viking Score is a distinct honor as it identifies students who have made a choice to engage in activities that support their own career development. Here is some additional information about this year’s students:
- 75% identify as female
- 26% are international students
- 12% are athletes
- 20% are first-generation college students
- 74% met with a career coach
- 9% completed Augustana’s first Career & Life Design Class
- 100% represent a diverse range of majors
Based on this data, there is no single predictor of success. However, I would wager that if we measured self-motivation and a desire for tchotchkes, these students would all excel in those areas!
